On May 23^rd, 1955, Vietnamese Government established central Salt Department, the forerunner of Vietnam national Salt Corporation (VISALCO). During 50 years of establishment and development, from an economic industry with backward technology, VISALCO has become a state-owned company with scientific technology producing and processing salt products and other related products reaching international standard, having a system of delivering and producing faculties nationwide with constantly increasing sales and turnover. Controlling 90% exporting salt market, VISALCO is considered a company in Vietnam with high prestige by international partners.

Currently, VISALCO is a state-owned company includes 13 faculties, 04 of which are wholly state-owned ones, entering independently in the accounts, 04 are subsidiary ones and 05 are joint-stock ones which VISALCO takes possession of 50% capital. There are 25 factories and units of iodized salt production, 04 factories of iodized-refined salt production with high quality meeting standard of PHABA technology, and a biggest and most modern salt field in Vietnam is in construction. Besides, VISALCO has a food company and a frozen food factory with capacity of 7.000 baby pork tons/year.

With development strategy from now up to 2010, VISALCO is gradually investing into units of industrial salt production, deeply into salt products with high quality in order to export and widely into other business such as construction, food process, hotel, transport…Going along with other enterprises in international integration, VISALCO should develop and grow up.
